Before I pressed the Play button on my CD player to listen to Jimmy Yessian’s new CD, The Future, I thought about Jimmy’s sometimes rough sometimes smooth, yet always soulful deep voice. And even though there’s a country feeling to the man, I thought about his almost delicate guitar-picking style that could easily fit in a few different genres. It’s true he’s spent time in the Nashville music scene. But not all of his songs are country...

It’s summertime! Yay! I’m reminded of vacations and fun road trips. Are you old enough to remember the AAA Trip Tik? I loved those things. Rather than pull out a giant map of your destination, that you had to pull off the road to even read, they made a small ‘flip chart’ you could hold in one hand. In fact, one of my earliest goals was to step into an elevator and hear one of my songs piped over the speaker via Muzak. I know that dates me, but it just shows how long we can hang on to certain dreams. But what do we do about those drea...

Happy New Year, Everyone! In the last issue of Bill’s Newsletter, I announced that Shelly Peiken, a songwriter and author in our music community, had been nominated for a Grammy in the field of Spoken Word for her book, “Confessions of a Serial Songwriter.” She’s in with some pretty heady company—Carrie Fisher, Bernie Sanders and Mark Ruffalo, Neil deGrasse Tyson, and Bruce Springsteen. But Shelly has been in heady company for a while,...
